The aims of this timeline are to provide a brief overview of the history of fair-trade in the Netherlands and to promote discussions about this topic. The timeline is not a complete overview of this part of Dutch history in international cooperation around sustainable development, nor does it pretend to be. Moreover, this first draft of the timeline on Dutch involvement in developing concepts, practices and institutions around fair trade is still ‘work in progress’.

The timeline is based on various sources that you can find in the archive of the NICC Foundation, the Netherlands International Cooperation Collection, several online sources and discussions with resource persons. The sources used are listed in every timeline bullet.
