The time of the “Regenten en vorsten” started in 1600 and ended in 1700. We named this time that way, because the government was in the hands of the ‘regenten en vorsten’. We called this time also the golden age, because the Republiek der Zeven Verenigde Nederlanden (the name of the Netherlands then) where in this time very rich and power full. This is because the VOC. The VOC is an abbreviation for ‘Verenigde Oost-Indische Compagnie’. It was founded in this century, through the ‘Staten general’ from the Netherlands.
The WIC (West-Indische Compagnie) was also founded in this centrury. They conquered Suriname and Curaçao, in the beginning of this time. After that the WIC started slave trade in Curaçao. In the golden age the ‘Republiek der Zeven Verenigde Nederlanden’ not only traded a lot, but they also did a lot of slave trade. Because of this we choose that our subject ‘Nederlands-Brazilië’ slave trade. Brazil was also a colony of the Netherlands for a time
