1972 Limits to Growth: Club of Rome

The Limits to Growth publication of the Club of Rome in 1972 highlighted the impact of population growth and that an exclusive focus on economic growth that would deplete natural resources and thereby the capacity to sustainably feed the growing population and maintain agricultural productivity.

In Dutch policies at the time this was a motivation to take environmental aspects into account. This is reflected in the 1979 white paper and led to stronger Dutch support for environmental protection and management of natural resources.[1]
